Gananoque, Ontario 1-613-382-7272 For many years we wanted to stay at the Blinkbonnie Inn, but were always leary of non-chain hotels. Gananoque, Ontario 1-613-382-5131 Gananoque is one of our favorite little towns, thus our excuse to spend a night while passing through on a trip back to the states. For some interesting facts on the 401 be sure to read Highway 401--The Story which was totally amazing. It's one of the pages from John Shragge's THE ROAD SCHOLAR and by reading this you will truely understand the great undertaking of this lengthy and massive highway system. I remember as a child driving on the 1000 Island Parkway and recall the 401 being built, little did I know, until I read this article, that the parkway was intended to be part of the 401 and instead of expanding the parkway to 4 lanes, they re-routed it to save the beauty of it. I'm so glad they did! The land that was dedicated to the other 2 lanes became the well known bicycle path on the parkway.
